Rising Stars Referee Academy is a non-profit organization that aims to build the next generation of referees within the Easterns football league with the objective of expanding their refereeing experience and meeting new cultures both on and off the pitch. Referees in their own right are unique and extraordinary, usually inspired by an internal and natural desire to follow such a passion.

THE TEAM
- Been actively involved in Easterns LFA since 1998
- Started Physical Training referees at Kempton Park in 2011
- Completed FIFA Referee Instructors Course in 2014 (Eswatini & COSAFA Mens Super Cup)
- Participated in CAF FUTSAL – AFCON in 2015
- Appointed National Physical Coach for SAFA in 2017 (after completing FIFA Referees Instructors Course in Ethiopia)
- Completed FIFA Advanced Referee Instructor Course in 2018
- Appointed Lead Physical Coach for Women FIFA Match Officials in Cosafa in 2018
- Completed Catapult GPS Course and CAF Elite Physical Instructors course in 2019
- Appointed Head of Physical Instructors for COSAFA in 2020 (14 Countries, 198 FIFA Match Officials)
- Appointed as one of 6 CAF professional Physical Coach in 2020 (working with Pro Refs and World cup candidates)
- Physical Coach for Men’s and Women’s Super Cup in Port Elizabeth/Durban in 2020-2022
- Physical Coach for Cosafa Beach Football in Durban
- Physical Coach for CAF Women’s Champions league
- Started refereeing at the age of fifteen
- Officiated in the then Transvaal Football League (TFL) by the age of seventeen
- Selected to officiate in the old Barclays and Smirnoff league
- Toggled between playing and refereeing
- Retired from playing in 2000
- Became part of the national panel of referees after two years
- Officiated in the PSL and NFD for 10 years
- Completed first referees’ instructors’ course in 2007
- Started giving courses in and around the Gauteng area with Easterns being the most prevalent
- Invited to a FIFA Instructors course in 2013
- Became more involved in the IT side of refereeing
- Attended CHAN tournament in 2014 (used on the IT side creating teaching material and cutting clips for the debrief sessions)
- Invited to attend CAF IT course and the CAF instructors’ course in Egypt in 2016
- Re-invited for the follow-up CAF Instructors course in 2018 (hosted in Egypt)
- Attended FIFA Futuro III instructors’ course in 2014 (Eswatini)
- Invited to the advanced FIFA Futuro III instructors’ course in Ethiopia in 2017
- Re-invited for the Elite FIFA Futuro II instructors course hosted in Johannesburg in 2018
- Attended various COSAFA tournaments around southern Africa as an instructor and IT engineer from 2016 to date
- Took care of all the workshop teaching material and daily debrief sessions
- Communicated with broadcaster to get match recordings
- Recorded matches if they were shown on DSTV
- Continues with normal SAFA duties as a Match Commissioner, Referee Instructor, Referee Assessor and IT work for referees
- Joined Scaw Metals FC in 1995.

- Elected to Easterns Executive in 2018 as Vice-Chairman till current.
- Obtained first referee certification in 2013 with the late Lindsay Grant, held at one of the referee courses held at Edenvale FC Actively refereeing.
- Been part of the Easterns selection panel/coach/manager, since 2012 and currently involved.
- Hung my, not so illustrious, playing boots up after the Easterns Master tour to Durban in 2018.
- Won the Mundialito U12 tournament in Spain with our U11 Easterns squad, with Shane Ducci, in 2017.
- Won the San Marino tournament in Italy with Bobby Addinall and Zane Skillings in 2018, also with our Easterns U12 squad.
- Started refereeing in the S.L.F.A at various age groups from Little League to Senior level in 1991
- Promoted to National S.A.F.A Referees panel in 1997, officiated in P.S.L and N.F.D leagues for 10 years
- Retired from National Referees Panel in 2008
- Appointed to S.A.F.A Referees Technical Committee in 2009-2010 to oversee the development of National Referee training and as National Referee Instructor and Assessor
- Part of the Portugal World Cup Liaison team in 2010
- Attended FIFA Instructor Course in 2018 (Johannesburg)
- Attended FIFA Futuro Advanced Instructor Course in 2018 (Rwanda), awarded “Best Instructor of the Course”
- Head Instructor and Assessor at the COSAFA U17 Tournament in 2019
- Referee Instructor and Assessor at the COSAFA Senior Challenge Tournament in 2020
- CAF Referee Assessor in Portuguese & English
- Head FIFA Referee Instructor Technical in Angola FIFA Referee Course Elite Panel (Portuguese)

- I was a dedicated, hard-working member of Bonaero 74, I was elected as the Treasurer of the club on the Committee in which I was assigned to & successfully overlooked
- I am currently a C License Coach. With this qualification I am very familiar with the game of football and all knowledge included around the game. This information is beneficial when a referee requires further assistance or knowledge regarding the rules or potential disagreements throughout the course of the game.
- I, myself am a Level 1 Referee. I am familiar with the rules and responsibilities required for this position and what requirements need to be met.
- I am a General Committee member sitting on board of the Easterns Football Association’s Committee.
- I have also played football, playing for the Bonaero 74 Ladies. I am familiar with the game, the rules and the hard-work that a referee is faced with when overlooking a football game and ensuring the smooth-running of the game.
- Five-year dedication to Bonaero 74 Football Club.
- Sat on the committee and accomplished the role of secretary who also assisted and overlooked the referee coordinator.
- Sending out the weekly schedule, insuring all fixture games had an assigned, qualified and responsible referee
- Myself and Louise built a referee assessment for the referee coordinator to overlook and monitor the performance of the referees assigned to games; all of this information and feedback was documented and available for any disputes raised, the referee assessment’s aim was to ensure that all referees were being monitored on their performance & ensuring that all provided criteria was being met by the referee.
- Ensured that all referees had necessary kit and were dressed/kitted up appropriately
- Ensured that all required tools were available and provided to the referee coordinator for him to secure a brilliant performance from all referees.
- We held meetings to hear feedback from the referees, opening the floor to any/all issues & difficulties that were being faced; analyzed the rules to those who required some clarification and overall provided and offered guidance where it was necessary.
